FLAVOURS TO FALL IN LOVE WITH AT LOCAL RESTAURANTS, ANOTHER REASON TO VISIT SIMCOE COUNTY
Fall is here and that means it is time for some of my favourite Fall flavours and foods. Butternut Squash, Pumpkin, Cranberries, and Apples are just some of the foods that scream Autumn to me. The leaves have started to turn colour and it is time for us to swap our BBQ for crock pots. Fall is my favourite food season of the year and Orillia and area celebrate it with the 7th annual Fall Flavours dining event. Eleven restaurants have created a prix fix menu interpreting what Fall flavours means to them. Try them all and you may just find a new favourite restaurant. Here are six restaurants that I have tried.
Brewery Bay – Located in the heart of historic Orillia, Brewery Bay has been a favourite dining spot for families and friends since 1993. The only thing bigger than the smiles on your server’s face will be the portions. Hang out at the bar and sample one of their twelve beers on Tap or choose the casual dining room and eat in comfort. Brewery Bay also is a great place if you have special dietary needs as they can handle almost any request, from Gluten Free to Vegan. Click here for their Fall Flavours menu.
Era 67 – Fine dining without the sticker shock is where it is at with Era 67. Fresh, local and organic whenever possible is the philosophy in the kitchen here and it translates to the plate. It is perfect here for a romantic date night or as a reward for a successful day. the menu changes seasonally so there will always be something new and fresh for you to try. Tre Sorelle – I think we all wish we had an Italian grandmother to cook for us when we crave Italian food. At least I do. Tre Sorelle is your Italian grandmother if you are not Italian. The three sisters serve up their Mamma’s recipes with warmth and a smile. I can hear them say manga mangia in my mind as I dive into one of their daily made pastas or cannolis. Lake Country Grill – You will not leave hungry after lunch or dinner at Lake Country Grill. The portions are HUGE and they scream comfort food. There always seems to be something happening here. It could be live music, karaoke night, or even a painting night. The Lake Country Grill is your neighbourhood joint and I bet once you’ve been you’ll be back again soon. Rustica Pizza Vino – Looking for a wood oven fired pizza made to order? Rustica Pizza Vino is the place to go. With a great selection of Italian dishes to round out the menu this slice of Italy in the heart of downtown Orillia satisfies all your cravings. An order of Arancini, a slice of Pizza Bianca and a big glass of Chianti to round it off make for a perfect Autumn evening. Click here for their Fall Flavours menu.
R Cottage – If you don’t own a cottage a visit to R Cottage will make you feel like you do. Located in Washago this quaint restaurant serves up homemade comfort food if your Mom was a chef. All their sauces, seasonings and dressings are preservative free & sugar free and made in-house. Every bite is an explosion of flavour and their Butternut Squash Soup is the best I have ever tasted. Well worth the drive from Orillia if you don’t have a cottage nearby. Click here for their Fall Flavours menu.
