Get to know the Black River on a long paddle up and down the river. The Couchiching Conservancy has a chance to protect over 4km of Black River, one of the last wild rivers in southern Ontario. Please note that this is not a paddling instruction event. Bring your own canoe/kayak/stand up paddleboard, paddle, bailer and life jackets are mandatory. The Wolf Run area in the Carden Plain lies about two kilometers south of the Precambrian-Paleozoic contact, the boundary between the outcrop areas of the ancient crystalline rocks of the Canadian Shield and the flat-lying marine sedimentary rocks that underlie much of Southern Ontario. Bring a lunch and be prepared for the day. We’ll follow John’s lead for a route and to discuss more about this interesting area. Join us for a snowshoe exploration of the trails of East Coulson Swamp. Mini lessons in Geology and Biology will happen throughout the hike thanks to Brittany Hope, from Nature Conservancy of Canada. Sojourn Outdoors will provide a dozen pairs of snowshoes for those who need to borrow. Some seasonal vegan snacks will be provided in the parking lot after the hike by Shine Restaurant of Orillia.
