The Wye Marsh recently hosted a forum, a step in the in the creation of a new vision. Before this summit, staff and volunteers personally interviewed over 120 stakeholders and in addition an online survey resulted in more than 275 responses. This fabulous feedback will be instrumental in building the new vision.
At the summit, the room was packed and there was an excited buzz in the air. For many of the participants, their commitment to the Marshcomes from a love of nature and wildlife and the appreciation of this facility being in our community. They expressed that everyone, no matter their age can learn from a Marsh experience program. They believe that the Marsh experience provides families and especially children with a safe place to explore and grow and to just be kids.
Some of the wishes for the future expressed, include developing partnerships in environmental research and eco-tourism; a place for biologists, teachers and scientists to build and share wetland knowledge. There was concern expressed about the environment and the role the Marsh could play in sharing an understanding of the dangers and the solutions.
The Wye Marsh is so grateful to everyone who has participated in this process. Now, the work begins to shape the ideas expressed into a vision that will propel the Marsh into the future. The staff and volunteers will be developing that plan over the next few months and then work to begin the implementation quickly. There’s a real buzz and excitement.
